Air India Reduces The Number of Delhi–Toronto flights by 35 %
Air India has reduced its Delhi–Toronto flight schedule amid rising operational costs, creating new challenges for Canadian travellers planning trips to India this summer.
In a recent press release, the airline confirmed that flights on the popular Delhi–Toronto route have been reduced from 10 weekly services to seven during the month of May. The airline has also already scaled back flight volumes in April and May, with additional schedule cuts expected in June and July.
The move comes as international airlines continue to face mounting pressures from soaring jet fuel prices, airspace closures, and longer travel routes caused by geopolitical disruptions.
“This is in response to the massive rise in jet fuel prices which, together with airspace closures and longer flying routes, has caused many of our international flights to become unprofitable to operate,” Air India stated.
The reductions are expected to impact thousands of Indo-Canadian travellers, particularly families planning summer vacations, weddings, and visits to loved ones in India. Fewer available seats may also lead to higher ticket prices and limited travel flexibility during peak season.
The Delhi–Toronto route is one of the busiest travel corridors connecting Canada and India, serving a large South Asian diaspora community across the Greater Toronto Area and beyond.
Travellers are being advised to monitor flight schedules closely and book early as demand for direct flights remains high heading into the summer months.
